What is TMJ?

TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) affects the jaw joint and surrounding muscles, often caused by injury, teeth grinding, or jaw misalignment. It can lead to pain, clicking, and difficulty moving the jaw.

TMJ — jaw joint pain and remedial massage treatment

If you experience jaw pain, clicking or popping sounds, or difficulty opening and closing your mouth — sometimes alongside headaches or ear pain — you may be experiencing TMJ. It is often linked to teeth grinding, stress, jaw injury, or a misaligned bite.

MBS Remedial Massage Home Treatment Includes:

  • Applying heat or cold packs to ease pain and inflammation.
  • Practising stress management techniques such as deep breathing.
  • Eating softer foods to reduce strain on the jaw.
  • Maintaining good posture to reduce pressure on the jaw.
  • Gentle jaw and neck stretches.

MBS recommends a Weekly, Fortnightly or Monthly massage to help manage symptoms associated with TMJ and support jaw and neck muscle relaxation.
